From Hearthside Inn to Mount Desert’s Wonders
Following a delicious breakfast here at Hearthside, your adventure begins just beyond the Inn’s doorstep. Bar Harbor, in all its signature New England charm and unmatched natural beauty, welcomes you! In just a few steps you’ll be on Cottage Street, where you’ll find a variety of shops, restaurants, bicycle and kayak rentals, and so much more waiting for you. Another tenth of a mile or so will put you at the intersection of Cottage and Main streets, where you can feel the refreshing ocean breeze drifting in from Frenchman Bay. Enjoy an ice cream cone as you wander down to the Town Pier, where you can relax on a park bench or explore the famous Shore Path, a mile-long walk which winds between the rugged coastline and historic summer estates, called “cottages.”
Of course, no trip to Bar Harbor is complete without spending time in Acadia National Park—the nearest entrance to which is located less than one mile from our front door. A scenic drive along the Park Loop Road unveils breathtaking vistas where crashing ocean waves collide with towering granite cliffs. A variety of scenic lookouts, walking paths, and hiking trails are accessible via the Park Loop Road—and don’t worry about picking the wrong one, as you really can’t go wrong in Acadia National Park! If you find the Loop Road a little busy for your speed at peak times, return in the early evening when it’s very quiet, or ask us about the many lesser-known locales, trails, and beaches scattered about the Island that are no less impressive than Thunder Hole, the Beehive, or Sand Beach. As native Islanders we’ve been about everywhere there is to go throughout Acadia, and we assure you—it’s all spectacular!
As your day unfolds, you may wish to enjoy a gorgeous Mount Desert Island sunset. Agamont Park right along the waterfront in downtown Bar Harbor is a great spot, but if you choose to see the sunset (or sunrise, for that matter—the earliest in the United States!) atop Cadillac Mountain do be sure to obtain the necessary reservation from the Park Service (reservations are necessary for automobile access to the summit; if you choose to hike, you’re good to go).
By the time the sun has set you’ll almost certainly have worked up an appetite. Whether it’s a classic lobster roll you’re after or something a little different from the norm, Hearthside puts you within easy walking distance of every single one of the dozens of restaurants located in downtown Bar Harbor, which range from adorable little sandwich shops to award-winning fine dining. A few miles’ drive allows dozens more options in Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and throughout the various other villages that dot the Island.
Returning to Hearthside, please feel more than welcome to relax with us by the fire or enjoy one of our homemade baked goods in the dining room. Not the least of the many perks of staying at a small B&B like Hearthside is the warm and personalized hospitality that will greet you throughout your stay. It is our goal to ensure you have a one-of-a-kind stay here in Bar Harbor, so please do allow us to tell you all about the area and help guarantee you discover everything this incredible Island has to offer!
We look forward to welcoming you to your perfect experience here in Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park! If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call anytime at (207) 288-4533. See you soon!
